WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LEDS OVER HALOGEN OR INCANDESCENT BULBS?
|
Traditional halogens produce their light by driving electricity through a resistance filament which heats up
and gives off light. Consequently halogen bulbs convert only 10% of their energy into light, the other 90% of a
halogen bulb's energy is converted to unusable heat. In the tight confines of an elevator cab or hallway this
excess heat drastically increases the ambient temperature requiring the use of additional energy in fans or
A/C to dissipate this wasted heat.
Unlike halogens, LEDs are solid state devices that convert 90% of their
usable energy into light with only a 10% residual heat conversion. Consequently an LED's light output requires
far less energy to produce the equivalent amount of light than a halogen bulb requires. Because of their
solid state circuitry and semiconductor construction eLume LED's are engineered to be impervious to shock
and vibration that would ruin a Halogen or incandescent filament.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LEDS OVER THE NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTS?

Like halogens or incandescent bulbs CFL's are glass encapsulated rendering them quite fragile in nature.
In addition CFL's use a small amount of mercury and other heavy metals to produce their light rendering them
non-recyclable and actually classifying them as hazardous waste after they cease to function. While far more
efficient than halogens and incandescent bulbs CFL's still use more energy than LED's to produce the
equivalent amount of light and their life span is five times shorter than LED's.
